Unless noted as HOSTED, the events listed below are not U.S. Paralympics Nordic Skiing hosted competitions so are not under the jurisdiction of the USOPC or subject to its policies. If you are a Participant of the USOPC/U.S. Paralympics Nordic Skiing at the time of a competition listed below, you are still required to be familiar with and comply with the USOPC Athlete Safety Policy and USOPC Minor Athlete Abuse Prevention Policies while participating at the event. 2022-23 National Para Nordic Development Race Series

U.S. Paralympics Nordic Skiing (USPN) is excited to announce the 2022-23 National Para Nordic Development Race Series, which will include both biathlon and cross-country skiing competitions.  This series will take place throughout the entire winter, across the country.  

The events included in this race series are hosted by Nordic ski and biathlon clubs across the country. We will track participation and results to award series’ winners for the top 3 athletes with the greatest number of points at the end of the seasonAll classes and genders will be combined to determine the overall top three award winning positions.  


  • No qualification is required

  • Classification: Points for this series will be calculated after FIS Para Nordic Classification Percentages have been applied to athletes' finishing timeIf an athlete has not been classified, they will be classed in the highest factor in their class, (VI classes – B3, Standing classes- LW4, Sitting classes – LW12).  

  • Athletes will be required to hold appropriate race licenses for the races they compete in.*

  • National Team members not eligible for prizes

*Requires a FIS Nordic Skiing License

**Biathlon races require U.S. Biathlon Athlete License. Note: there is an option for a day license. 

Earning Points

Overall awards will be given to the top 3 athletes (all classes and genders combined) who have the greatest number of points at the end of the season (March 29, 2023)In addition, there will be a Rookie Award, given to a first-year racer with the greatest number of points. Points can be earned in the following ways:

  • 3 points for finishing a National Para Nordic Race Series competition

  • Points for top three in each class per gender (men’s sit, women’s sit, men’s stand, women’s stand, men’s visually impaired, women’s visually impaired): 

  • 1st – 3 points

  • 2nd – 2 points

  • 3rd -- 1 point

  • 3 points for racing in any additional race/s between November 15, 2022-March 27, 2023 (the maximum number of points one can earn in this way is 12). Additional racing opportunities can be found on the Event page of the USPN website, but any race counts!

To add additional races to your points profile, participants need to send BethAnn Chamberlain (bethann.chamberlain@usopc.org) race results. The deadline for this is March 30, 2023!



Prizes for the following categories will be announced in April of 2023 and will be shipped or delivered to the winning athletes following this announcement. 

  • 1st place overall in points – New pair of skis 

  • 2nd place overall in point – New pair of poles 

  • 3rd place overall in points –Team USA apparel 

  • Rookie Award – Team USA apparel

Jan. 1- Classification & Official Training

Jan. 2- Cross-country Sprint

Jan. 3- Cross-country 5km

Jan. 4- Biathlon training

Jan. 5- Biathlon Sprint

Standing & VI races will also be offered but will not be part of the National Championship. 



All U.S. participants in this competition are subject to the requirements outlined in the USOPC Athlete Safety Policy available at: http://teamusa.org/USOPCAthleteSafetyPolicy. Adult Participants are also required to be familiar with, and comply with the USOPC Minor Athlete Abuse Prevention Policies (MAAPP) available at: http://teamusa.org/maapp. Participating in our events also comes with certain responsibilities, such as requirements to report Prohibited Conduct, to include violations of the MAAPP, as outlined in Section 6 of the USOPC Athlete Safety Policy, as well as completing training as outlined below.

U.S. Center for SafeSport Training

All U.S. athletes (18 years and older), coaches, officials, and support staff requesting accreditation must complete, or have completed within the last calendar year, the U.S. Center for SafeSport’s SafeSport Trained Core training, or applicable Refresher training course if they have previously taken the SafeSport Trained Core training. The training must be completed prior to arrival at the event and must be valid through the conclusion of the event. Please note, U.S. Paralympics Nordic Skiing membership with SafeSport training that is valid through the conclusion of the event will be accepted.

If you are not in compliance with training, depending on the required course, it will take between 30 to 90 minutes to complete the training. Taking the SafeSport Trained Core or Refresher training is free for registered event participants. Please email Jamie Martin, jamie.martin@usopc.org, if you need help accessing the training. You must submit proof of completion and expiration date of your most recent SafeSport training to Jamie Martin, jamie.martin@usopc.org, at least two weeks prior to the event.

If you are a minor athlete, completing SafeSport training is not required, however, we recommend you work with your parent/guardian to take the free youth training course offered by the U.S. Center for SafeSport. The U.S. Center for SafeSport also has resources available to parents/guardians regarding abuse prevention in sport, to include the Parent Toolkit, and free online training. These resources, and information regarding the training for both minor athletes and parents/guardians is available at: https://uscenterforsafesport.org/training-and-education/safesport-courses-for-all/.

USOPC Background Check

All U.S. participants requesting a Team Staff accreditation for this competition are required to undergo a background check utilizing the National Center for Safety Initiatives as further described in the USOPC’s Background Check Policy & Procedures (which can be viewed on the Team USA Athlete Safety Page at https://www.teamusa.org/team-usa-athlete-services/safe-sport) and Exhibit C. The background check must be completed prior to the start of competition. Any individual receiving a “Red Light” may be precluded by the USOPC from participating in the competition. Please note, U.S. Paralympics Nordic skiing membership with a background check that is valid through the conclusion of the event will be accepted. Please submit proof of completion and expiration date of your most recent background check to Jamie Martin, Jamie.martin@usopc.org.
