Unless noted as HOSTED, the events listed below are not U.S. Paralympics Nordic Skiing hosted competitions so are not under the jurisdiction of the USOPC or subject to its policies. If you are a Participant of the USOPC/U.S. Paralympics Nordic Skiing at the time of a competition listed below, you are still required to be familiar with and comply with the USOPC Athlete Safety Policy and USOPC Minor Athlete Abuse Prevention Policies while participating at the event. 2022-23 National Para Nordic Development Race Series

U.S. Paralympics Nordic Skiing (USPN) is excited to announce the 2022-23 National Para Nordic Development Race Series, which will include both biathlon and cross-country skiing competitions.  This series will take place throughout the entire winter, across the country.  

The events included in this race series are hosted by Nordic ski and biathlon clubs across the country. We will track participation and results to award series’ winners for the top 3 athletes with the greatest number of points at the end of the seasonAll classes and genders will be combined to determine the overall top three award winning positions.  

Eligibility

  • No qualification is required

  • Classification: Points for this series will be calculated after FIS Para Nordic Classification Percentages have been applied to athletes' finishing timeIf an athlete has not been classified, they will be classed in the highest factor in their class, (VI classes – B3, Standing classes- LW4, Sitting classes – LW12).  

  • Athletes will be required to hold appropriate race licenses for the races they compete in.*

  • National Team members not eligible for prizes

2. U.S. Sit Ski Nationals Solider Hollow, Midway, Utah January 2-5, 2023. CC Sprint* & CC 5km*, Biathlon Sprint **

3. Boulder Mountain Tour- Sun Valley, ID, Feb. 4, 2023

4. Ski to the Sun- Methow Valley, WA, Feb. 10, 2023

5.  U.S. Biathlon National Championships- ** Casper Mountain, Casper, WY March 24-26, 2023

*Requires a FIS Para Nordic Skiing License

**Biathlon races require U.S. Biathlon Athlete License. Note: there is an option for a day license. 

Earning Points

Overall awards will be given to the top 3 athletes (all classes and genders combined) who have the greatest number of points at the end of the season (March 29, 2023)In addition, there will be a Rookie Award, given to a first-year racer with the greatest number of points. Points can be earned in the following ways:

  • 3 points for finishing a National Para Nordic Race Series competition

  • Points for top three in each class per gender (men’s sit, women’s sit, men’s stand, women’s stand, men’s visually impaired, women’s visually impaired): 

  • 1st – 3 points

  • 2nd – 2 points

  • 3rd -- 1 point

  • 3 points for racing in any additional race/s between November 15, 2022-March 27, 2023 (the maximum number of points one can earn in this way is 12). Additional racing opportunities can be found on the Event page of the USPN website, but any race counts!

Registration links for all events will be posted on the USPN Event page website once registration opens.

To add additional races to your points profile, participants need to send BethAnn Chamberlain (bethann.chamberlain@usopc.org) race results. The deadline for this is March 30, 2023!

 

Prizes

Prizes for the following categories will be announced in April of 2023 and will be shipped or delivered to the winning athletes following this announcement. 

 
  • 1st place overall in points – New pair of skis 

  • 2nd place overall in point – New pair of poles 

  • 3rd place overall in points –Team USA apparel 

  • Rookie Award – Team USA apparel

December 31:  Arrival; unofficial training

 

January 1: 

-9AM-12PM Official training for Cross-Country Sprint & 5km

-Classification

 

January 2:  Cross-Country Sprint (classic for Standing and VI)

            -10AM Qualification- all classes

            -10:45AM Heats- all classes

            -Awards following conclusion of the finals. 

 

January 3:  Cross-Country 5km (freestyle for Standing and VI)

            -10AM sit ski start

            -11AM standing & VI start

            -Awards following the conclusion of the race

 

January 4:  9-11AM Official biathlon training

 

January 5:  Biathlon Sprint (7.5km)

            -9-9:50AM zero for all racers

            -10AM sit ski start

            -10:30AM standing & VI start

            -Awards following the conclusion of the race

 

Changes to the schedule can be made by the host organization

Standing & VI races are FIS Para Nordic Continental Cup races but NOT part of the U.S. National Championship.
