Personal: Born with a hereditary eye condition that slowly deteriorates his central vision, Scheidies now has 20% of the vision of a fully sighted person. He found the sport of triathlon as an outlet and started with sprint triathlon and continued up the triathlon pyramid. He is a seven-time triathlon world champion and eight-time national champion, having traveled around the globe competing in over nearly 200 triathlons. In 2005, he teamed up with four other blind individuals to conquer the world’s single most grueling event, the Ironman triathlon (2.4mi Swim, 112mi Bike, 26.2mi Run) on the legendary Couer d’Alene course. He has had the opportunity to become active in the film and modeling industry. He has been featured in such magazines as GQ, Esquire, Competitor, ESPN the Magazine, and Men’s Health. On screen he plays himself in the documentary Victory Over Darkness. As a public speaker, he has spoken in Thailand for the Young Presidents Organization, motivated Janus financial executives, represented the U.S. Paralympic hopefuls for the NYC 2012 Olympic bid and spoke at the Kennedy Space Center to the NASA employees on overcoming obstacles as a physically challenged professional athlete. In 2011, he continued to be honored for his excellence as he was a finalist for an ESPY Award for Best Athlete with a Disability.
