What year did you being lifting? 2002

How did you get involved? I was home visiting my family on Christmas break and had to get a workout in for track. I met Joaquin Chavez in the UNM weightroom, where he introduced me to the sport and invited me to train with his team while home on break. One month later, I was competing in my first competition and qualifying for the 2002 USA Weightlifting American Open in Savannah, Ga.

Education: Graduate of Colorado State University with a B.S. in Biological Sciences (concentration in Human Anatomy and Physiology); graduate of Arizona State University with a B.S. in Nursing

Personal Goals: To continue to improve in the sport at my old age. I never expected to be lifting as a master's level lifter and figured I would retire before I turned 35. Here I am still competing as a senior, and I feel as good as I did when I started at 22.

Favorite Food: Pizza!

Favorite Book: I love to read memoirs. I blame it on the fact that I am nosey and have secret infatuation with Hollywood life. A couple of my favorites... anything written by Chelsea Handler and Jennifer Lancaster.

Favorite TV Show: I love to watch TV: "Breaking Bad," "Scandal," "Sons of Anarchy," "Nashville," and I am embarrassed to admit but I cannot miss an episode of "Dance Moms" or "Pretty Little Liars."

Favorite Song: "Problem" by Iggy Azalea and Jennifer Hudson

Hobbies/Interested outside of Weightlifting: I recently bought an Electra cruiser bike and enjoy putting my sweet dog, Whitworth, in the basket and going for rides around the neighborhood and local patio restaurants. I also love having game nights with my close friends and family.

Most people don't know that... I travel for work and cover the entire state of New Mexico. I am the Diabetes Clinical Manager for Medtronic Diabetes, and I work with patients and their health care providers on educating patients on use of insulin pump and other therapies. I travel every week and somehow find the time to get my workout in. I can't imagine never lifting. I love it!
