Two-time Olympian Shane Hamman will do the heavy lifting as commentator of the Weightlifting events at the upcoming Summer Olympic Games in Rio, NBC Olympics announced Tuesday.

"My favorite part of announcing is being able to still be involved in the sport that I love," Hamman told USA Weightlifting.

Hamman, who represented Team USA in Weightlifting at the 2000 and 2004 Summer Olympic Games, will join Ed Cohen in the broadcast booth. The pair will broadcast from NBC's International Broadcast Center in Stamford, Connecticut.

"It's been quite an honor to be on the other side of the camera," Hamman said. "When I was at the Olympics as an athlete, I missed seeing most of the other athletes compete due to training and rest. To be able to watch every lift has been very exciting."

Rio marks the third Olympic Games Hamman has announced for since retiring from competition.

"I love watching our Team USA athletes compete," Hamman said. "It always takes me back to my times on the big platform."

The Games of the XXXI Olympiad will begin in Rio de Janeiro on Friday, August 5th. Weightlifting events are scheduled August 6-10 and August 12-16.
