IWWF License Mandate Now In Effect
USA Water Ski & Wake Sports April 22, 2021
Based on a decision made at the 2019 IWWF Congress in Malaysia, all athletes wishing to register for Ranking List (RL)/Record Capability (RC) competitions must hold an IWWF License in the future. The introduction of the IWWF License will begin with the Barefooting, Cable Skiing, Wakeboarding Boat, Wakeboarding Cable and Water Skiing disciplines as of 2021. The disciplines of Disabled, Water Ski Racing, Show Skiing and Wakesurfing will follow in 2022.

Engine Cut-Off Switch Link Now Required For All Boats That Have Them Installed

On April 1, 2021, the U.S. Coast Guard implemented a new law requiring boaters who operate recreational vessels 26-feet long and under with an installed Engine Cut-Off Switch (ECOS) to use the ECOS link. Additionally, all boats built after January 2020 are required to install an engine cut-off switch.

IWWF Wakeboard Worlds Postponed To 2022

The IWWF and organizers, the Italian Waterski & Wakeboard Federation, have made the decision to postpone the 2021 IWWF World Wakeboard Championships to July 2022. This decision was made in consultation with the IWWF President, IWWF European Confederation President, IWWF World Wakeboard Council and IWWF Medical Committee. With the global pandemic still affecting international travel, which will impact participation significantly, and the uncertainties of organizing an event in three months time, it was decided that postponing the event to July 2022 is the best course of action.

Show Ski Athletes Win Titles At All American Tournament

The 2021 show ski tournament season kicked off Saturday with several show ski athletes winning titles at the 2021 All American Tournament on Lake Silver in Winter Haven, Fla. Lake Silver, home of the Cypress Gardens Ski Team, will be the host site of the 2022 IWWF World Water Ski Show Championships.

AWSA Approves Towboat Use Reimbursement

The AWSA board of directors approved the following policy to reimburse all boat owners for towboat use in AWSA sanctioned events, effective for the 2021 season. A Local Organizing Committee (LOC) must reimburse a boat owner(s) for costs incurred due to use of a boat for any event (excluding Regionals and Nationals) on an hourly basis. This provision includes promo boats, individually owned boats, club boats, etc. The recommended minimum reimbursement rate is $25 (Twenty-Five dollars) per hour of use recorded from the boat’s hour meter. The boat must be an Approved Tournament Towboat with valid insurance as required by USA-WSWS. The boat owner has the option to decline reimbursement and/or make other arrangements.

Judges, Drivers & Scorers Needed For Pan Am Championships

The 2021 Pan American Water Ski Championships will be held at Boca Laguna in Chapala, Jalisco, Mexico. The tournament will include skiers from all age divisions, as well as Open Division skiers. The 35+ competition will be held Oct. 28-31, and the U14, U17, U21 and Open competitions will be held Nov. 4-7. Although nominations were previously made by AWSA for this event, additional Judges, Scorers and Drivers are needed. Judges must hold a Pan Am three-event rating. Scorers and Drivers must hold an AWSA Senior three-event rating.
