Nine U.S. Athletes Win Titles At 22nd Junior U.S. Open

Nine U.S. water ski athletes won titles in respective events at the 22nd Junior U.S. Open Water Ski Championships, June 25-26, at Bell Acqua Lake 3 in Rio Linda, Calif. The two-round, world-record capability event featured junior men and junior women (ages 17 to 21) and boys and girls divisions (ages 16 and under). Some of the world's top junior water ski athletes competed for titles in slalom, tricks, jumping and overall. U.S. athletes winning titles were: Chase Sparks (Dallas, Ga.), Junior Boys’ slalom (1 buoy at 38 feet off) and overall (2,563.9 points); Erick Macias (Winter Garden, Fla.), Junior Boys’ tricks (8,200 points); Julianna Macias-Sedano (Winter Garden, Fla.), Junior Girls’ tricks (3,690 points); Gage Kacprowicz (San Antonio, Texas), Junior Boys’ jumping (149 feet); Elizabeth Hall (Newnan, Ga.), Junior Girls’ jumping (119 feet) and overall (3,000.0 points); Blaze Grubbs (Rio Linda, Calif.), Junior Men’s slalom (1/2 buoy at 39-1/2 feet off), tricks (8,340 points) and overall (3,000.0 points); Kendra Nathan (Canyon Lake, Calif.), Junior Women’s slalom (2-1/2 buoys at 35 feet off); Alyssa Drake (Oconomowoc, Wis.), Junior Women’s tricks (3,840 points), jumping (130 feet) and overall (2,992.7 points); and Jonathan Leutz (Jacksonville, Ill.), Junior Men’s jumping (200 feet). The two-round, world-record capability event featured junior men and junior women (ages 17 to 21) and boys and girls divisions (ages 16 and under). Some of the world's top junior water ski athletes competed for titles in slalom, tricks, jumping and overall. U.S. athletes winning titles were: Brooke Baldwin (Winter Garden, Fla.), junior women’s slalom (3-1/2 buoys at 38 feet off), tricks (7,430 points), jumping (131 feet) and overall (3,000.0 points); Will Blair (Mooresville, N.C.), boys’ overall (2,860.2 points); Landon Geels (Westminster, Colo.), junior men’s slalom (5 buoys at 38 feet off); Blaze Grubbs (Rio Linda, Calif.), junior men’s overall (2,934.6 points); Samantha Hill (Morris, Conn.), girls’ jumping (106 feet); Alana Jones (Church Point, La.), girls’ slalom (5 buoys at 35 feet off); Ty Kosek (Buffalo, Minn.), boys’ jumping (142 feet); and Jonathan Leutz (Jacksonville, Ill.), junior men’s jumping (179 feet). Other athletes winning titles were: Dominga Gonzalez (Chile), girls’ tricks (5,370 points); Matias Gonzalez (Chile), boys’ tricks (9,240 points); Evan Kraus (Canada), boys’ slalom (3 buoys at 38 feet off); Sean Kraus (Canada), junior men’s tricks (7,850 points); and Shea O’Brien (Canada), girls’ overall (2,818.2 points). Eight water ski athletes won titles in respective events at the 20th Junior U.S. Open Water Ski Championships, June 20-21, 2020, at Mystic Lakes in Maize, Kan. The two-round, world-record capability event featured junior men and junior women (ages 17 to 21) and boys and girls divisions (ages 16 and under). Some of the world's top junior water ski athletes competed for titles in slalom, tricks, jumping and overall. Athletes winning titles were: Blaze Grubbs (Rio Linda, Calif.), Boys’ slalom (5 buoys at 38 feet off), tricks (7,030 points), jumping (162 feet) and overall (3,000.0 points); Kennedy Hansen (Milton, Fla.), Girls’ slalom (3 buoys at 38 feet off), jumping (120 feet) and overall (3,000.0 points); Allyson Grathwohl (Martindale, Texas), Girls’ tricks (6,010 points); Brooke Baldwin (Winter Garden, Fla.), Junior Women slalom (2-1/2 buoys at 38 feet off), tricks (8,130 points), jumping (152 feet) and overall (3,000.0 points); Benjamin Leutz (Jacksonville, Ill.), Junior Men slalom (1 buoy at 39-1/2 feet off); Jonathan Leutz (Jacksonville, Ill.), Junior Men jumping (192 feet); Ethan McKinnon (Temora, NSW, Australia), Junior Men tricks (5,620 points); and Garrett Reese (Walnut Creek, Calif.), Junior Men overall (2,684.0 points).
