What are Sanctioned Events?

The term “sanction” refers to the compliance of a multisport event to USA Triathlon’s safety requirements. Safety plans, course maps, and event details must be submitted for review by experienced USA Triathlon staff. This ensures events are safe and fair competition environments.

USA Triathlon sanctions more than 4,300 races across the country. Race Directors can host multiple races under one sanctioned event. USA Triathlon not only sanctions triathlons, but also paratriathlons, duathlons, aquathlons, aquabikes, off-road events, winter triathlons, youth races, camps and clinics.

If you have any questions about the sanctioning process, please email us at EventServices@usatriathlon.org or call (719) 884-5612

Getting Started

The sanction process is entirely web-based, hosted and handled by the USAT website. The process will walk the event director through the design of a safety plan specific to their event. This section will give race directors a step-by-step guide for the current sanction system as well as some helpful reminders for the sanctioning process. Click here to get started
