Erik Armes had put his triathlon dreams to the back-burner, but a 10-day triathlon skills camp at the OTC lit his fire.
One is truly the loneliest number that you’ll ever do… Especially if you are in a draft-legal triathlon and you’re in a one-(wo)man pack on the bike.
From the team aspect representing the University of Illinois to the support of fellow teams, it was simply an amazing weekend (although very exhausting).
This weekend I participated in my third draft-legal and second Olympic-distance race at the Collegiate National Championships in my hometown of Clemson, South Carolina. In March, I raced in my first two triathlons and discovered how important the swim was to a draft-legal triathlon.
Shoulder range of motion is a crucial part of developing the proper stroke, so my main task since day one has been to improve my range of motion as much as I can, as fast as I can, while staying injury free.
During the season break, I went back to the basics. I reflected and synthesized all that happened in 2015 and put together a goals and expectations outline for the 2016 season. This exercise built the fire up pretty quickly: I redefined how to set my goals and the process of achieving them.
It’s my favorite time of the year! After a hard and long winter of training in Phoenix, AZ it is finally race season and time to put my fitness to the test. I made my season debut in Wollongong, Australia.
Clermont, Florida will forever hold a very special place in my heart. I spent four spring breaks with Princeton Track and Field running at the National Training Center and through the orange groves, soaking up every bit of the Florida sunshine. Now, returning to Clermont for the CAMTRI American Cup felt like a homecoming. Unbeknownst to me, this year would further link my heart and my life to Clermont forever.
Last weekend I was able to race my first draft-legal competition down at the Clermont Draft Legal Challenge in Florida. It was a wonderful opportunity to learn and develop as a triathlete. The race was like nothing I have done before, and I can officially say that I am hooked on this sport.
My rookie season for triathlon kicked off this past weekend with two races in Clermont, FL at the Clermont Draft Legal Challenge. Both races were Elite Development Races so there were elite cards on the line.
Last year Tritonman was my first “proper” triathlon. For days before the race I was sick to my stomach not sure if I would make it to my running shoes in T2. When the gun went off last year, I was so nervous about mixing it up in the swim I backstroked to the first buoy. This year I am training full time as a triathlete with a team of coaches and USAT support to guide me.
