A Great Place on a Great Lake

USA Triathlon is heading back to Milwaukee, Wisconsin for the 2021 Age Group National Championships!

USA Triathlon is pleased to offer two races in Milwaukee. On Saturday, August 7, the Olympic-Distance National Championship will take place and on Sunday, August 8, Sprint-Distance National Championships will be awarded. Whether you are looking for the opportunity to become a national champion or simply compete among the most competitive age group athletes, this race is for you.

As a city that cherishes its roots, Milwaukee features revitalized architecture throughout downtown, along with a parade of summer festivals to celebrate the diverse cultures that made the city what it is today. But Milwaukee is also a city that's growing and changing. From major construction projects like a brand new arena and streetcar, to the revival of streets and neighborhoods around the city, there's a new energy in the air. Experience this and more at Age Group Nationals!

Milwaukee's Commitment to Hosting the Event Safely August 6-8
Letter of support from Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett

Both Olympic and Sprint distance events have SOLD OUT for qualification divisions as of 8 p.m. MT on April 9!

Qualified athletes should use their same access code to join the waitlists. The access code and link to waitlists can be found in your qualification email. The waitlist is free to join and athletes will be notified directly as slots become available. Note that qualification is still required to join the waitlist for the Sprint and Olympic-Distance National Championships.

Please note that limited slots are also still available for the Time to Tri Open Waves and Open Water Swim Competition which do not require qualification.

Additional slots for qualified athletes may become available closer to the event as coronavirus restrictions are reduced.

New Qualification Standards for 2021

For 2021, Sprint Age Group National Championships will require qualification in addition to Olympic-distance. Please view the qualification standards on this page.

Time to Tri Open waves will also be provided for athletes who are unable to qualify for either Olympic or Sprint distances. Athletes participating in Time to Tri Open waves will receive the same shirt, goody bag and other items as athletes in the qualification-based divisions. Time to Tri Open waves are NOT eligible for National Championship awards or Team USA Qualification, but finishers do have the opportunity to qualify for the 2021 Age Group National Championships qualification-based divisions. Non-championship awards will still be provided to open wave athletes in five-year age groups. With only 200 spots in the Olympic-Distance race and 200 spots in the Sprint race, be sure to click here for open wave registration information

Note: Anybody who qualified for the 2020 Age Group National Championships is automatically qualified for 2021.

Qualification Emails

To register, you must use the unique code provided to you once you have received the "You've Qualified" email. If you believe you have qualified, but did not receive the email, please first read the qualification details. Please note: race directors have 15 days to submit results after their event occurs. If you have qualified, you will not receive the qualification email until a few days after they submit results.

Coronavirus Safety Precautions

Please know that the health and safety of all athletes, staff, volunteers and the community at large is USA Triathlon’s highest priority. We are dedicated to providing a safe environment at all USA Triathlon events, and our race logistics and safety plans for 2021 are specifically designed to prevent COVID-19 exposure and transmission. The Toyota Age Group National Championships will be held with stringent COVID-19 safety precautions in place according to USA Triathlon’s Safe Return to Multisport initiative. Additional details will be communicated to athletes on a regular basis in the lead-up to the event; however, participants should expect the following safety measures to be in place:

  • Self-screening before arrival at venue
  • Temperature checks upon arrival to venue
  • Limited spectator capacity
  • Contact reduction for all athletes, staff and volunteers
  • Pre-race briefings held virtually instead of in-person
  • Masks worn by all individuals at all times except when actively racing
  • Increased cleaning and disinfecting practices onsite, including hand sanitizer stations throughout venue
  • Increased spacing between athletes in transition area and swim start
  • Smaller wave sizes
  • Bottled water at aid stations
  • Limited aid stations — athletes encouraged to race with their own nutrition
  • Signage throughout venue reminding athletes to wear masks and remain 6 feet apart whenever possible

These practices are subject to change based on the evolving COVID-19 situation and any restrictions put in place by the host city, county and venue itself.
