Registration Waitlist Information

This event will likely sellout. USA Triathlon encourages athletes to race, qualify, and register early in the calendar year to secure a spot.

In the event of a sellout, USA Triathlon will create a waitlist for athletes wishing to participate in the Toyota Age Group National Championships. The waitlist is free to join and athletes will only be charged if a slot opens and they are accepted into the event. Note that qualification is still required to join the waitlist for the Sprint and Olympic-Distance National Championships. The Time to Tri Open Waves (non-championship) and Open Water Swim will also have a waitlist that does not require qualification.

Time to Tri Open Waves - No Qualification Required

New for 2020, Time to Tri Open waves are available in each the Olympic-distance and Sprint races. No qualification is required to compete in the open waves. However, athletes participating in the Time to Tri Open waves are NOT eligible for National Championship awards or Team USA Qualification. Time to Tri Open wave athletes will receive the exact same shirt, goody bag, and other items as athletes racing in qualification-based divisions. Open wave athletes also have the opportunity to qualify for 2021 Age Group Nationals via Qualification Path #3 of the Qualification Criteria.

In addition, Sunday's Sprint race will have a new category of PC Open. The below registration link requires a password to enter. Please email registration@usatriathlon.org for the password.

With a cap at 200 spots in the Olympic-Distance and 200 spots in the Sprint, be sure to reserve your spot now! Olympic entry fee: $199. Sprint entry fee: $119.

Sprint distance is sold out and there are less than 100 spots left for the Olympic distance, so be sure to register right away!

Eligible Age Groups and Awards

Participants have the opportunity to qualify for the 2021 ITU Triathlon World Championships through the 2020 USA Triathlon Age Group National Championships. It is the policy of USA Triathlon to provide awards only for those age groups which qualify for this level of competition. For Standard-Distance (Olympic), age groups will begin with 17-19 and continue in 5-year increments through 85-89. For Sprint, age groups will begin with 15-19 and continue in 5-year increments through 85-89 The minimum ages to compete are based on the ITU Competition Rules (appendix A, page 75).

  • For the 2020 USAT Olympic-Distance National Championship, athletes must be 17 by December 31st, 2020.
  • For the 2020 USAT Sprint National Championship, athletes must be 15 by December 31st, 2020.
  • For the 2021 ITU Standard-Distance World Championship, athletes must be 18 by December 31st, 2021.
  • For the 2021 ITU Sprint World Championship, athletes must be 16 by December 31st, 2021.

If you are wishing to compete at this event, but do not meet the minimum age requirement, we encourage you to participate in one of our youth events. For a chart of recommended distances for youth multisport athletes, please click here.

Event Cancellation and Modification Policy

In the event of extreme weather, natural disaster, community disaster or other unforeseen emergencies, our action steps will be as follows:
  • USA Triathlon, in concert with local officials, will make the final decision based on safety of the athletes, spectators, vendors, volunteers and others affiliated with the event.
  • USA Triathlon may, based on the conditions of the course, shorten the distances or cancel the event altogether.
  • Because costs of the event have already been paid out to cover various levels of production expenses, there will be NO REFUNDS, transferred entry fees or future complimentary entry fees.

Athenas and Clydesdales

Since ITU does not support a division for Athena and Clydesdale at its Sprint and Olympic-Distance World Championships, USA Triathlon will not be supporting an Athena and Clydesdale division moving forward at the Age Group National Championships. If the athlete’s intent is to qualify for either the Sprint or Olympic-Distance World Championships, they will need to compete in the wave corresponding with their age group at the USA Triathlon Age Group National Championships. Again, since the Age Group National Championships will no longer support the Clydesdale and Athena division, all athletes will need to meet qualification in the athlete’s respective age group at a sanctioned event when qualifying.
