Women's Collegiate Triathlon Event Information

USA Triathlon and the College Triathlon Coaches Association (CTCA) Board of Directors announced that the fall 2020 varsity women’s collegiate triathlon season has been canceled due to ongoing precautions surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic.

USA Triathlon and the CTCA are exploring the potential feasibility of hosting a varsity women’s collegiate triathlon season in the spring of 2021, and additional details will be communicated at a later date.

The season was initially scheduled to include three regional qualifiers — Sept. 5 in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin; Sept. 26 in Branson, Missouri; and Oct. 17 in Smith Mountain Lake, Virginia — and the Women’s Collegiate Triathlon National Championships on Nov. 14 in Tempe, Arizona.

All four events have been canceled in order to limit cross-state travel and ensure a fair playing field for all athletes and teams. Several NCAA athletic conferences have announced the cancellation or postponement of their fall athletic seasons or set limits on student-athlete travel, making it impossible for many teams to be able to participate in the regional qualifier and national championship events.

Draft-Legal Rules and Equipment

2020 rules coming soon!

Draft-legal collegiate athlete equipment must meet the following standards or the athlete will not be allowed to participate in the event:

  • Aerobars may not extend beyond the brake levers and must be touching or bridged with a factory-produced bridge.

A water temperature was taken on Monday, September 28 at Tempe Town Lake. The reading was 66F.

The final water temperature for all of the races will be taken by officials one hour before the swim start (one reading for age group men and one for age group women). The results of the temperature will be announced via the public address system to all athletes on race morning.

The top three athletes in each division (Division I, Division II, Division III), and the top three collegiate club athletes will be presented at the awards ceremony after the completion of the competitions.

The Division I, Division II and Division III Team Champions will be announced immediately after the individual athlete awards.
