Team USA Information UPDATE Due to Event Cancellation

The 2020 Duathlon National Championships in Lake Havasu City would have qualified top finishers in each age group for the 2021 ITU Age Group Sprint and Standard-Distance Duathlon World Championships, to be held as part of the 2021 Almere-Amsterdam ITU Multisport World Championships from Sept. 3-12.
 
The 2021 USA Triathlon Duathlon National Championships, scheduled for May 22-23 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, will now serve as the qualifying event for BOTH the 2021 Sprint or Standard-Distance Duathlon World Championships in Almere-Amsterdam, Netherlands, AND the 2022 Sprint or Standard-Distance Duathlon World Championships in Townsville, Australia. Qualifying athletes will have the option to represent Team USA in both Almere-Amsterdam AND Townsville, or they may choose just one. Standard-Distance:

All of the standard slots will be allocated at the USA Triathlon Duathlon National Championships in Lake Havasu on October 16-17, 2020. The ITU Multisport Festival in the standard/Olympic-distance will NOT be draft-legal.

The 2020 USA Triathlon Duathlon National Championships in Lake Havasu, AZ will qualify athletes for the Standard-Distance Duathlon at the 2021 ITU Multisport World Championships Festival in Almere, Netherlands. At the Duathlon National Championships, the top 18 in each age group, rolling down to 30th place after applying the age-up rule, will qualify for the World Championships.

TEAM USA SLOT-CLAIMING TEAM USA SLOT-CLAIMING PROCESS: (subject to change) Slot-claiming will happen via email after the event. Athletes do not need to be present at the awards ceremony to claim their spot.

The top 20 athletes per age group in the USA Triathlon annual rankings as of 12/31 will qualify for the standard-distance world championship. The top 2 are offered a spot rolling down to 20th.

Note: All spots offered via the rankings system are subject to spots being available on the roster.

Sprint-Distance:

Both races in Lake Havasu qualify for the Draft-Legal Sprint Duathlon at the 2021 ITU Multisport World Championships Festival in Almere, Netherlands.

Qualification through the Non-Drafting race:

For 2021 ITU Multisport Festival qualification, USA Triathlon will allot eight (8) spots for women and eight (8) spots for men in each age group (after the age up rule is applied) at the USA Triathlon Non-Drafting Duathlon National Championship on Sunday, October 17, in Lake Havasu, AZ. No pass down spots will be granted from this event.

Qualification through the Draft-Legal race:

For 2021 ITU Multisport Festival qualification, USA Triathlon will allot ten (10) spots for women and ten (10)  spots for men in each age group (after the age up rule is applied) at the USA Triathlon Draft-Legal Duathlon National Championship to be held Saturday, October 16, in Lake Havasu, AZ. Pass downs to spot 30 will be granted from this event.

TEAM USA SLOT-CLAIMING PROCESS: All athletes must claim their spot at the respective awards ceremony. Failure to do so will result in a forfeiture of your spot. Athletes that qualify in both the sprint and standard distance events only need to claim their spot once.
