Update on 2020 Duathlon National Championships - Event Canceled

USA Triathlon, along with race production companies Tucson Racing and 3 Disciplines Racing, have announced that the 2020 USA Triathlon Duathlon National Championships, Collegiate Club Cup & High School National Championships in Lake Havasu City, Arizona, have been canceled due to current local government guidelines surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic.

Despite receiving multiple assurances in recent weeks from the local permitting agencies that the Havasu Triathlon was cleared to continue as planned, Tucson Racing was recently informed that Arizona State Parks & Trails has pulled all permits for gatherings taking place in Arizona state parks through the month of October.

Unfortunately, Tucson Racing has been forced to cancel the 2020 Duathlon National Championships in Lake Havasu City, as well as the Collegiate Club Cup and High School National Championships. Postponement to a later date in 2020 is no longer a viable option due to permitting and venue availability.

Canceling events is never an easy decision to make, and we know this news is disappointing to many of you. Because these are unprecedented circumstances, and as outlined in the race registration process (or deferral process for those who deferred from Tuscaloosa), Tucson Racing is providing a 50-percent refund on your registration fee. This refund will be credited automatically back to your original method of payment. This may take a few weeks, and we appreciate your patience during this process.

Unfortunately, due to event expenses already incurred, the 50% refund is the only option Tucson Racing is able to provide. We are unable to defer athletes to the 2021 Duathlon National Championships.

In addition, Tucson Racing is offering $20 off of registration for the 2021 Havasu Triathlon. If you are interested in receiving the discount, please fill out this form and race director Jonathan Grinder will reach out with the code once registration has opened. Please note, the 2021 event will not have a National Championship designation. Currently the Havasu Triathlon is scheduled for March 13 or March 20, 2021.

Team USA Information

The 2020 Duathlon National Championships in Lake Havasu City would have qualified top finishers in each age group for the 2021 ITU Age Group Sprint and Standard-Distance Duathlon World Championships, to be held as part of the 2021 Almere-Amsterdam ITU Multisport World Championships from Sept. 3-12.

The 2021 USA Triathlon Duathlon National Championships, scheduled for May 22-23 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, will now serve as the qualifying event for BOTH the 2021 Sprint or Standard-Distance Duathlon World Championships in Almere-Amsterdam, Netherlands, AND the 2022 Sprint or Standard-Distance Duathlon World Championships in Townsville, Australia. Qualifying athletes will have the option to represent Team USA in both Almere-Amsterdam AND Townsville, or they may choose just one. For more information about Team USA qualification, visit usatriathlon.org/teamusa or email teamusa@usatriathlon.org

We appreciate your flexibility and understanding during this unprecedented time, and we hope to see you at another starting line soon.
