Age Group Awards

Age groups will begin with ages 15-19 and continue in 5-year increments through 85-89. Awards will be presented to the top three athletes in each age group and gender. International athletes competing in the Age Group Draft-Legal National Championship will not be eligible for awards. 

Bike SupportRyder Bikes

Ryder Bikes is the Official Bike Support of the 2018 Sarasota-Bradenton Triathlon Festival. Ryder Bikes will offer basic bike support services near transition area during the following dates and times: 

  • Friday, Oct. 12, 9 a.m.-6 p.m. for the expo and bike check-in
  • Saturday, Oct. 13, 5:30 a.m-6 p.m. for expo, transition area and racing
  • Sunday, Oct. 14, 6:30 a.m. -2 p.m. for transition area and racing

For service outside these hours or comprehensive needs, please visit Ryder Bike’s local shop at 5275 University Parkway, Unit #135 University Park, FL 34201. Store Hours: Monday-Saturday 10 a.m.-7 p.m., Sunday 12-5 p.m.

Course Nutrition

  Gatorade Endurance formula is the Official Sports Beverage of USA Triathlon and will once again be available on the course for all athletes.
   
 Sport In Science Science in Sport will provide on-course energy gels and energy bars at aid stations. Science in Sport’s isotonic gels provide fast, easily digestible energy! Both caffeinated and non-caffeinated will be available. Science in Sport will also offer their energy bars on course that pack 26g of carbohydrates into each bar!

Drug Testing

In accordance with U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) regulations, athletes may be drug tested at this event. Should drug testing occur, there are strict protocols that must be followed and will be coordinated by the on-site USADA representative as well as a USA Triathlon staff member. The Sarasota-Bradenton Triathlon Festival is proud to partner with HBC Event Services, a travel/booking agency with a nationwide reputation for excellence in managing travel for sports events.  HBC Event Services provides an easy way for you to book your hotel rooms with our partnered hotels at the best rates.  These rates are always the same, if not lower than, their best available rate and usually includes breakfast for your team.  HBC Event Services guarantees that if the tournament is cancelled due to weather, you will not be charged for any cancellation penalties that you may otherwise have been subject to if you made your reservation elsewhere.  This guarantee does not include hotel reservations made after the hotel cut off dates.  

All participants are encouraged to make all hotel accommodations using our housing services to get the discounted rates.  Please do not call the hotels directly and book through the hotel reservation link above.  We appreciate your support as these partnered hotels assist in sponsoring our event.

Parking

Spectator and athlete parking is located in the grassy parking lot to the southeast of the mall lots. No parking is available in the mall lots. Parking is also prohibited on the island at Nathan Benderson Park. It is a short walk from the parking area to the race site. Parking is $5 per car, cash only.

All age group draft-legal athletes are required to attend the pre-race briefing at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 12 at the Nathan Benderson Park Athlete Briefing Tent.

Rules

Please review the following rules for each competition.

  • Age Group Draft-Legal National Championship athletes will follow the ITU Rules of Competition for Age Group draft legal racing.
    • Please note: Disc brakes are now legal for draft-legal competition.

Draft-Legal Equipment Requirements:

Draft-legal age group competition has specific equipment requirements. Equipment must meet the following standards or you will not be allowed to participate in the event:

  • Bike must have standard drop handle bars.
  • Aerobars (both long or short) are not permitted to be used.
  • Wheels must have 12 or more spokes and no disc wheels.
  • Disc brakes are allowed! (New for 2018).
  • My helmet must have the original CPSC sticker in place inside the helmet.

Note: This event has been designed to eliminate the lap-out rule. Athletes will not be lapped-out.

Swim Safety

  • Age Group Athletes (Draft Legal): Wetsuits will be allowed if water temperatures are 71.6 F or less.
  • Athletes with a latex allergy should notify USAT staff at packet pick up and will be provided with a non-latex swim cap.

Timing Chips

All athletes are required to wear a timing chip during the competition. Chips will be distributed on race morning upon check in to transition for draft-legal and non-draft age group races. It is the athlete’s responsibility to wear the timing chip on race day. Volunteers will collect the timing chip at the Finish Line after completing the triathlon. Athletes who lose their chip will be responsible for a $100 replacement fee.
