Personal:

Ahalya was born with Arthrogryposis Amyoplasia, a muscular skeletal disorder that affects her lower limbs, but has never let her disability affect her tenacity, determination and competitive spirit. While Ahalya has always participated in a variety of sports, she began swimming just at age 11 to combat chronic hip pain due to her bilateral hip dysplasia. Thanks to her coaches at her competitive swim team (Wheaton Swim Club), who encouraged her natural abilities in the pool and fed her competitive drive, she fell in love with the sport. At age 12 she competed in her first para-swimming event, the GTAC Disability Open (May 2013). Less than a year later in March 2013, at age 13, she was named to the U.S. Emerging Team roster, and was also a member of the 2014 Pan-Pacific Team USA roster.

In her free time, Ahalya enjoys playing the piano and viola, cooking and baking, spending time with her Dad (Tom), Mom (Anna), older brother (Alex) and younger brother (Charlie) at her grandparents' lake house, and playing with her black lab Rocky.
