October 2018 Tryouts will take place from October 19 through 21 in Auburn, AL. Tryouts are open to current college-age athletes and older born in the years 1989-1999* inclusive, AND high school athletes born in 1997 or earlier.

HOUSING, MEALS & FEES: Athletes have the opportunity to stay at a local hotel that is a short walk to the Auburn University athletic facilities, and offers an exclusive rate for USA Team Handball. The approximate cost is $70 per nights. Meals will cost approximately $30 per day. There is a program registration fee of $30 for junior athletes and $50 for senior athletes, paid in advance. LOCAL TRANSPORTATION: Athletes should fly into the nearest airport, Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, Atlanta, GA (ATL). We recommend arranging for a shuttle service from the airport to Auburn, AL, the University’s campus is easy walking distance from the hotel. We recommend Groome Transportation for our athletes. TRAVEL: Athletes should plan to arrive in Auburn, AL one day prior to the tryout. Most USA National Team Handball Program Tryouts will begin in the morning on Saturday and will conclude in the evening. If you are traveling to the tryout by airline, please DO NOT schedule your departure from Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport earlier than 8 p.m. on the same day of the event. It is best to schedule your departure on Sunday or the day following the tryout.

USA Women’s National Team Handball Forms: Each athlete is required to complete and submit paperwork for USA Team Handball, the sport’s National Governing Body, prior to participation in the tryout. Approximately 1-2 weeks prior to the tryout you will receive an automatically generated email from the USA Women’s National Team Handball Residency Program with the required forms necessary to participate in the tryout.. Each athlete will be required to provide background information to ensure a successful tryout experience.   • USA Team Handball Medical Background and Release Form: All athletes must bring a physical, completed copy of the Medical Release form with you to the tryout. You will turn in this form during check-in. DO NOT send your Medical Release prior to arrival.
  • Copy of Insurance Card: Tryout participants are required to provide proof of valid health insurance coverage upon their arrival at the tryout. USA Team Handball will provide sport accident insurance for injuries sustained during the tryout process. This will be a supplemental coverage to your personal coverage and does not cover non-tryout related illness or injury.
  • USA Team Handball Liability Release Form : All athletes must bring a physical complete copy of the Release of Liability form with you to the tryout. You will turn in this form during the check-in. DO NOT send your Release of Liability prior to arrival. Athletes under the age of 18 years are required to attain a Parent’s Signature on the form.

ELIGIBILITY: The tryout is open only to U.S. citizens meeting the age requirements previously addressed at the top of this page. Participating athletes must possess a level of athleticism, fitness and technical ability consistent with that of a high level collegiate player. Participants who successfully learn the sport of Team Handball are typically all around or are multi-sports competitive athletes.  Overall fitness and strength are important components for learning the sport and competing successfully at our tryouts.  Athletes who played numerous sports in high school and college often become very good Team Handball players. No refunds will be offered to athletes who are not selected for the program.

USA WOMEN’S NATIONAL TEAM PROGRAMS: Throughout the tryout process, USA Women’s National Team Handball Program will be identifying prospective athletes for the following programs:

U.S. Women's National Team Handball Residency Program: Athletes who have concluded their college eligibility and who wish to be invited to be a member of the USA Women’s National Team Handball Residency Program will be asked to training on a full-time basis. This program could begin as early as the spring of 2018, or when an athlete’s scholastic or professional club season has concluded.

Also considered for training with this group will be athletes who have remaining college eligibility. Their participation will begin in the spring or when their scholastic calendar ends for 2018.

USA Junior Women’s National Team Handball Residency Program: Athletes in high school and college with eligibility remaining for their sport may also be invited to participate in a number of residential training camps to prepare for the next round international competitions.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: All athletes will attend each session. We recommend that athlete arrive "as early as possible" on Friday is to allow for travel delays and also to give time for the athlete to check in for tryout, get something to eat, and get some rest in advance of the tryout session.
