NYAC Looking to Three-peat as Champs
By: Bill Harrison and the New York Athletic Club

The New York Athletic Club has sponsored a team handball club since 2005, winning National Championships in 2005, 2006, 2013, and 2014 (Elite Division) as well as in 2011 and 2012 (Open Division). Prior to being sponsored by the NYAC, the team was known as the NY Hungarians, Adelphi University THC, and Garden City THC. During its existence from 1968 to present, the team has won a total of 21 U.S. National Championships, by far the most in U.S. History.

In the current season, the NYAC took the silver in the prestigious 2014 Michael Lipov Memorial Cup (Chicago, IL) in October, as well as the gold medal in February at the 2015 Carolina Blue Cup (Chapel Hill, NC).

Team Captain Danny Caparelli (pictured, left) has stated that “this team is in all out preparation for the [2015 Open Championships in] York. A NYAC ‘three-peat’ is a definite possibility and nothing else will be acceptable.”

Coach Laszlo Jurak, the winningest coach in U.S. team handball history, states that the NYAC “will take it one half at a time and one game at a time. Defense will be the key to winning and everyone will need to be at the top of their game.”

The team is looking forward to defending its title, and is looking forward to a great, competitive, fun weekend in York.
