Shani began playing handball at age 11. While living in Israel, she played for the club team, B’nei Hertzeliya, and won eight straight national championships. She was also selected to the Israeli National Team when in the 10th grade, and was capped 26 times over her Israeli career.

After completing her college degree, Shani, a dual citizen in Israel and the United States, decided to play for the U.S. National Team to pursue her dream of playing in the Olympics.
