Katiann learned about team handball by joining The Ohio State University (OSU) Team Handball Club her senior year of college with her sister, Katrina. The coach of OSU’s team, Mark Ortega, was a player on the Men’s Senior National Team and told Katiann about the tryouts for the USATH Residency Program. Her coach knew she had potential as a goalkeeper when she took a shot to the face and kept playing. In July 2014, she was invited to move to Auburn, Alabama, to join the USATH Residency Program after graduating college with an Animal Science degree.

At Hoover High School in North Canton, Katiann was a co-captain of her Varsity Soccer team. While attending OSU, she took different opportunities to try new sports like crew (rowing) and team handball, where she made great friends and memories.

Katiann also had the great experience to work at The Columbus Zoo & Aquarium for a zoo keeper internship opportunity where she met her idol, Jack Hanna, several times. She wants to be the face of an animal industry or corporation, giving a voice to those who can’t speak. Katiann is still working with animals in Alabama while training for her Olympic dream.
