Barry “The Wall” Ratner left the court on 05 Aug 2014. Barry was also known as “The Big Cat” at his work. These monikers show he had a unique style in and outside the table tennis world. Barry developed a steady blocking game using antispin and inverted rubber. His technique was his own and was especially difficult for new opponents. Anyone who played Barry was in for a fun battle. Barry never gave up. He loved the sport and the sport loved him. Although cancer finally won the battle, he was not beaten. He will be missed on and off the court. Everyone loved and respected “The Wall.”
There will be a memorial service to honor the memory and life of Barry Michael Ratner on Sept. 21st from 6:30pm -8:30 pm . It will be held at the Weinstein Jewish Community Center of Richmond Virginia. The address is 5403 Monument Ave. Richmond Va. This is also the location where Barry played table tennis 3 days a week for many years. It's the perfect location to honor his life, devotion to his many friends and his favorite sport Table Tennis. His ranking may have changed but for many years Barry was ranked number 9 in Table Tennis in the state of Virginia. We are asking that in lieu of Flowers that donations be made to the Richmond Table Tennis Club or the American Cancer Society.
