2014 Butterfly Los Angeles Open Provides High Level Competition for Top US Player Timothy Wang

Timothy WangWell known in the U.S. and North America, 3-time US National Men’s Champion and 2012 London Olympian Timothy Wang will kick off his busy fall competition season with the 2014 Butterfly Los Angeles Open. As the top US player, Timothy will face stiff competition in the form of international super stars, California based Chinese player/coaches and other top players from around the country. However, the 22 year old Texas native has been training hard at his new home at the Indian Community Center (ICC) and is determined to improve upon his quarter-final finish from last year’s event.

It is no surprise that Timothy follows a rigorous training schedule at the world-renowned ICC training center in Milpitas, California. The young American superstar practices 6-8 hours per day with a variety of top level players to continually improve and perfect his game. At this weekend’s Los Angeles Open, Timothy will put into action new tactics and strategies that he has been perfecting over the summer, in hopes of causing some major upsets in the Open event.

The 2014 Butterfly Los Angeles Open will be an important stepping stone for the US super star, whose long term goals include medaling at the 2015 Pan-American Games, and securing a spot on the 2016 US Olympic team. The experiences and lessons Timothy will learn from competing against such high caliber players at this weekend’s event will undoubtedly help him on furthering his table tennis journey.

After competing at the 2014 Butterfly Los Angeles Open this weekend, Timothy will travel to Ontario, Canada as a vital member of the US National Men’s team for the North American Championships. Then, he will spend the remainder of this year playing in the European leagues (for clubs in Sweden and Denmark), before returning to defend his US National’s Men’s title at the 2014 US Nationals in December.
