Daughter of Robert and Helen Hall and wife of Shelly James, Cynthia Ranii enjoys playing table tennis to keep her ‘young, fit and always striving to be my best.’ She has two siblings, young brother Anthony and sister Melina. Ranii is a grandmother of ten and enjoys teaching her grandchildren the game in her free time. She attended the University of California where she received a degree in near eastern languages in 1969. She continued her education and completed two graduate degrees: a master’s degree in south asian regional studies from the University of Pennsylvania and a master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of Southern California. She is particularly found of international competitions including those in Costa Rica, Germany, France and Argentina. Ranii worked for many years as a school superintendent at Los Gatos-Saratoga High School and now enjoys meeting new competitors in local able-bodied USATT tournaments. In her spare time, she enjoys yoga, meditation, writing and keeping up with world events. From 1971-1974 Ranii served in the Peace Corps in Iran. She has also written a memoir entitled Parakeet Races and Other Stories.
