National Team Trials

Senior National Squad

The Senior National Squad is selected every four years (in September 2016 for the 2017-2020 Senior National Squad) with a possibility to challenge into the squad every year until 2018:

 

Phase 3 – End of summer/Fall 2018 (Date to be determined depending on the FINA calendar):

Squad Selection Camp to add or remove athletes to the 2017‐2020 Senior National Training Squad.

 

The Senior National Squad includes up to 26 athletes to possibly make two Senior National Teams of up to 12 athletes every year and 2 athletes for the Mixed Duet.

 

Training requirements:

  • Athletes in consideration for the Duet routine must train year-round at the National Training Center.
  • Athletes in consideration for the Team routine are highly encouraged to train year-round at the National Training Center as follows: 


    In Year 1
    , flexibility is given to the athletes to train with their clubs or colleges until mid-April:

    September 2016 – April 2017 Club or College training

    April 2017 – End of World Championships National Team training

    In Year 2, flexibility is given to the athletes to train with their colleges until mid-April:

    September 2017 – May 2018 College training

    May 2018 – 2020 National Team training at National Training Center

    In Years 3 and 4, all athletes must train at the National Training Center year-round.

Selection Procedures for the 2017-2020 Senior National Squad Trials (revised 11-16-2016)


Junior National Squad

The Junior National Squad is selected every two years:

December 2016 for the 2017 and 2018 Junior National Squad

December 2018 for the 2019 and 2020 Junior National Squad

The Junior National Squad includes up to 24 athletes to possibly make two Junior National Teams of up to 12 athletes every year.

Training requirements:

  • In Year 1 of each two-year period (2017 and 2019), athletes train in their clubs and during National Training Camps to prepare for the summer international competition.
  • In Year 2 of each two-year period (2018 and 2020), athletes may choose to train at the National Training Center or in their clubs. Only those training at the National Training Center can be considered for selection to the Junior National Team 1 participating in the Junior World Championship of that year.
  • In Year 2, athletes who are not training full time at the National Training Center may be selected to the Junior National Team 2. Athletes participating in Junior National Team 2 train in their clubs and during National Training Camps to prepare for the summer international competition, if applicable.

The 2018 Junior World Championship competition will be in Budapest on July 18-22, 2018  

The 2018 UANA Championship will be in Riverside on August 5-11, 2018.
