2018 USA Field Hockey Summit

Join us for the inaugural USA Field Hockey Summit from March 16-18, 2018 in Baltimore, Md.

What is this event?

As the national governing body for the sport of field hockey in the United States, it is USA Field Hockey's responsibility to promote and develop the sport for future generations to enjoy. Uniting the field hockey community and harnessing everyone's passion for the sport through a shared weekend experience can help fuel the growth and success of the sport. The Summit is designed to bring the field hockey community together - Club Administrators, Coaches and Umpires of all levels, Sponsors and Vendors - for an educational and inspirational weekend featuring guest speakers, professional development, awards and recognition, networking opportunities, and more. 

Many field hockey, sport experts and business professionals will be speaking at the 2018 Summit to provide attendees with useful information, best principles and thought-provoking discussion.

Club Administrators will share best principles and learn from field hockey and sport experts. Breakout session topics for Clubs will include:

  • Using Social Media to Build Your Program
  • Fundraising
  • Protecting Yourself, Your Coaches and Your Players

Breakout sessions targeted to Coach Education will include both classroom and hands on workshops and skill demonstrations. Topics include:

  • Teaching Technical Skills
  • Goalkeeping
  • Backhand Skill Instruction

Breakout sessions for Umpires will include:

  • New Positioning Concepts
  • The Psychology of Umpiring
  • Controlling a Match

Registrants will be able to check out the vendor booths, featuring the latest in field hockey gear, uniforms and swag from sponsors and exhibitors.

When is this event?

The 2018 USA Field Hockey Summit will start in the evening of Friday, March 16 and end around noon on Sunday, March 18.

What will the weekend schedule be?

Friday evening's Welcome Reception will kick off the Summit with the opportunity to meet and connect with fellow club administrators, coaches and umpires of all levels, and sport advocates.  This evening will be a perfect time to visit with sponsors and vendors who serve the field hockey community with their expertise, products and services. Appetizers will be served.

Saturday’s programming will start early, include a boxed lunch, and continue all day with multiple breakout sessions targeted to coaches of all levels, new and experienced umpires, and advocates looking to develop and grow their clubs and programs. The keynote speaker is scheduled to speak at 11:00 a.m. ET on Saturday. 

Saturday night’s festivities will include the 2018 Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Awards Dinner.  This is a special occasion, as 2018 marks the 30th anniversary of USA Field Hockey’s first Hall of Fame Induction. Legends and leaders of the sport will be recognized and celebrated for their contributions on and off field. USA Field Hockey is pleased to announce the addition of several new awards to recognize individuals, volunteers, coaches and umpires whose contributions have helped to further our mission to Grow the Game, Serve Members and Succeed Internationally. The nomination process for these awards will open soon and details will be made available on usafieldhockey.com. Tickets for the Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Awards Dinner are sold separately, with a savings offered when bundled with Summit registration.

All Summit attendees are encouraged to join the Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Awards Dinner Celebration!

Attendees will have the opportunity to meet, greet and learn from some of USA Field Hockey’s finest current and former national players, coaches, umpires and club operators. Programming will continue on Sunday and will conclude around lunchtime to accommodate travel schedules.

Who should attend this event?

USA Field Hockey encourages field hockey club administrators, program leaders and coaches of multi-sport organizations, physical education teachers, elementary school coaches, high school coaches, college colleges and umpires of all levels to attend. Adult players and all individuals looking to learn more about field hockey are welcome to attend as well. Registrants will have the opportunity to attend multiple breakout sessions of interest throughout the weekend.

The 2018 Summit will not include clinic for youth players, but will cover topics on age appropriate development and best principles for coaching and working with players of various age levels.

Additional Coach Education Offerings:

In conjunction with the Summit, we will be offer two Coaching Certification Courses:

• Level 1 Instructional Coaching Clinic – This clinic will be offered on Friday, March 16 from 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. ET, location and name of the Coach Educator facilitators are to be determined. Space is limited. Click here for more information and to register.

•  Level 2 Instructional Coaching Clinic – This clinic will be held Thursday, March 15 from 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. ET and Friday, March 16 from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. ET. Some of Saturday's breakout sessions for Coaches and Umpires will be held in the Radisson Ballroom located directly across the street. The Radisson is connected to the Lord Baltimore Hotel by a walkway, just a few steps away.

How much does the Summit cost and what does the price include?

Early-Bird Registration, which runs from Tuesday, October 10, 2017 to Thursday, November 30, 2017, reduces the cost for the Summit to $199 for USA Field Hockey Members while the price is $249 for Non-Member. This includes Friday night Welcome Reception with appetizers and a cash bar, access to all programming on Saturday plus a boxed lunch, and access to all programming on Sunday.

Registrants from Friday, December 1, 2017 through Thursday, February 1, 2018 will pay a rate of $225 for USA Field Hockey Members and $275 for Non-Members.

Registrants from Friday, February 2, 2018 through Friday, March 16, 2018 are considered late registrants and will pay $250 for USA Field Hockey Members and $300 Non-Members. Please register early to take advantage of discounted early-bird prices!

There is an additional charge of $50 for all member registrants who'd like to attend the Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Awards Dinner, which will include a multi-course dinner. We hope all Summit registrants will attend the Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Awards Dinner for a fun night of celebration.

Accommodations are additional, and a discounted hotel rate at the Lord Baltimore Hotel has been negotiated for the Summit registrants. Hotel rates range from $139 to $169 per night depending on room type and availability. Tax is additional. Please make your reservations by clicking here.
