Purpose:

The USA Diving Coaching Foundations Level 1 course (CFL1) is an introductory coaching education program for those who are committed to expanding their knowledge in the art and science of our sport.

It is designed to introduce coaches to the responsibilities and philosophies of coaching and how to provide a safe and athlete-centered environment that emphasizes positive growth and sportsmanship.

The emphasis is on developing and sharing knowledge of Sports Sciences, Philosophy, Planning, Evaluation and Diving Techniques. The skills presented are basic skills covering dry land and water progressions for Front, Back and Inward dives; as well as basic Line ups from 3 meter.

Who can take the course:
The Coaching Foundations Level 1 requires no prior experience with diving. The course is predominantly on the recreational and introductory diving levels and designed to equip individuals with the information and confidence to teach basic diving fundamentals to new divers.

This course will be beneficial to all diving professionals - both experienced and inexperienced. Instructors new to the sport of diving will find this course provides a valuable foundation on which to build their education and skills. Experienced coaches can use this course as a self-assessment to fine-tune their own skills and coaching philosophy as well as create a platform on which to mentor their assistant coaches. All diving professionals will gain greater insight, knowledge, training tips, and ideas throughout the course.

Prerequisites:
Participants must be a current coaching member of USA Diving and must have a successful background check completed before attending the clinic.  Please allow 7-10 days for background checks to be completed before attending a certification course.

Participants must be a minimum of 16 years of age

Course Outline:
Coaching Foundations Level 1 Course attendance at an 18-20 hour clinic. These clinics are facilitated by a USAD approved Coach Developer and designed to emphasize group interaction whenever possible. The course is broken into 4 Modules as follows:

  • Module 1 – Roles and Responsibilities of the Coach
  • Module 2 – Communication and Learning
  • Module 3 – Planning Lessons
  • Module 4 – Introduction to Technical Foundations
