Cameron is the son of Paul and Kristin Thatcher and has two siblings, Elli and Joey. He has been diving since he was seven years old and competed at his first senior nationals at age 15. He trains six hours a day five days a week. His favorite dive is 5154B on 3-meter, and his favorite diver is Jack Laugher. Other than the pre-meet waffle he has to eat on competition days, Cameron says he has been working on improving his diet this year. He has also been working to increase his degree of difficulty.

Cameron also enjoys playing guitar, listening to music, surfing and all sports but especially golf (he has an uncle who is a PGA teaching professional who has worked with Phil Mickelson, Rocco Mediate and Lee Janzen).  In 2015 Cameron and his family founded the Joey Sweets Foundation to support education and research of Type One Diabetes. Joey Sweets was inspired by Joey Thatcher, Cameron's younger brother, after the family experienced the effects diabetes has not only on the individual, but the family. Cameron serves as the President of this charity.
