Become a Judge

Judge Certification Programs

The USA Archery Judge Certification Program strives to promote an international standard of event judging at all levels of competition within USA Archery.  All judges are encouraged to officiate at USA Archery sanctioned events and seek promotion.


USA Archery Certified Judge

USA Archery Certified Judges are encouraged to officiate USA Archery sanctioned events under the guidance of more experienced judges, and with experience, serve as the Chair of Judges (COJ) and Director of Shooting (DOS).

Note: A Certified Judge was formerly known as USA Archery Judge Candidate and Regional Judge.

Prerequisites

  • Minimum age 18
  • Be a USA Archery member for a minimum of one year, or volunteer with a USA Archery program or serve as a judge observer at USA Archery National Indoor or National-level Outdoor tournament
  • USA Archery background screening*
  • Safesport Training*

Certification Steps

*If completed for another USA Archery program, it is not necessary to resubmit.


Become a USA Archery Certified Judge

USA Archery National Judge

USA Archery National Judges guide and supervise USA Archery Certified Judges, and may serve as a Judge, Chair of Judges (COJ) or Director of Shooting (DOS) at USA Archery events and are eligible to participate in World Archery Americas Continental Judge certification seminars.

Prerequisites

  • Minimum age 18
  • Current USA Archery membership
  • Current USA Archery background screening*
  • Safesport Training*
  • Minimum of 3 years as a USA Archery Certified Judge prior to application
  • Complete Judge duty at one USA Archery National-level outdoor tournament, plus one USA Archery National Indoor or National Field tournament prior to application
  • Satisfactory judge performance reports from national-level event technical delegate and/or Chair of Judges
  • Successful participation in one of the following during each certification period:
    • USA Archery Officials and Rules Committee update workshop/seminar/webinar
    • World Archery Americas or World Archery Judge Seminar/Workshop/Conference

Certification Steps

  • The Officials and Rules (O & R) coordinator will coordinate with National Judge applicants to meet in-person with an approved exam administrator. The exam administrator may be a member of the Officials and Rules Committee or a Continental or International-Level Judge.
  • Complete the closed book National Judge exam with a passing grade of 85%.

USA Archery Judge Emeritus

The title of USA Archery Judge Emeritus is awarded to USA Archery Judge for distinguished judge and official service to USA Archery. Nominations are provided by the Officials and Rules Committee and must be ratified by USA Archery Board of Directors.

World Archery Continental Judge

USA Archery Judges who wish to officiate Continental events (World Archery Americas – WAA) may apply for Continental Judge candidacy after meeting the following criteria:

Prerequisites

  • Current USA Archery National Judge Certification
  • USA Archery Officials & Rules committee endorsement
  • 2 years of judging at national-level events

Certification Steps

  • Submit the World Archery Americas Application for Continental Judge candidacy
  • Participate in a World Archery Americas Continental Judge Seminar
  • Pass the World Archery Americas Continental Judge Exam

Note: USA Archery National Judge certification is required to maintain status as Continental Judge, International Judge Candidate or International Judge.

World Archery International Judge

USA Archery National Judges who wish to officiate World Archery events may apply for candidacy after meeting the following criteria:

Prerequisites

  • Current USA Archery National Judge Certification
  • USA Archery Officials & Rules committee endorsement
  • World Archery Americas Continental Judge with requisite years of experience

Certification Steps

  • Submit World Archery Americas Application for International Judge candidacy
  • Participate in a World Archery International Judge Semina
  • Pass the World Archery Americas International Judge Candidate Exam

Note: USA Archery National Judge certification is required to maintain status as Continental Judge, International Judge Candidate or International Judge.
