Children's Specialized Hospital Lightning Wheels - Paralympic Sport New Jersey

Children’s Specialized Hospital has always encouraged children to be independent despite any challenges that arise. In 1981, to encourage independence and to benefit from athletic competition, Children’s developed a junior wheelchair athletic program for individuals with a physical disability ages 5 – 22, called the “Children’s Lightning Wheels”. Since then, the team has continued to achieve great success both on the individual and team levels. In 2003, the Lightning Wheels embraced athletes whose disability does not require the use of a wheelchair; however, they may use an assistive device and/or have motor planning difficulties.
