Team USA Endowments

Olympic and Paralympic Athlete Endowments

As the steward of the Olympic and Paralympic movements in the United States, the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee is charged with supporting its athletes today, while generating resources for the team of tomorrow. As one of the only National Olympic Committees in the world that does not receive government funding, however, the USOPC lacks the public resources of many of our sport rivals around the world.

Through a Team USA Athlete Endowment, you have the opportunity to make an immediate and lasting impact on an athlete’s life.

For $1,000,000 (full support) or $500,000 (partial support), you can provide funding in perpetuity to cover a portion of the living and training expenses incurred by the USOPC as it prepares an athlete for the Games. Your gift will underwrite sport performance services, training and living accommodations at a U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Training Center, healthcare, equipment costs and travel for international competitions.

A full endowment provides an estimated $50,000 per year to cover these expenses, while a partial endowment can pay out upwards of $25,000 annually in perpetuity.

  • In 2013, the USOPC awarded $22 million in grants to more than 1,500 athletes
  • Compared to 2011, athlete financial aid and NGB support has increased by 12 percent, but it’s not enough
  • In 2013, the USOPC’s Elite Athlete Health Insurance Program and National Medical Network provided elite athletes more than $6 million in services, including insurance benefits for 1,108 athletes throughout the year
  • It costs more than $35,000 to provide one athlete with the opportunity to live and train at a U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Training Center for one year
  • 227 2014 U.S. Olympic Team members trained at an OTC
  • 93 2014 U.S. Paralympic Team members trained at an OTC
  • Located in 13 states across the country, the USOPC’s 16 Olympic and Paralympic Training Sites collectively provided more than $10 million in elite athlete and NGB support in 2013

In addition, we encourage you to name your endowment after yourself, a family member or a respected member of the USOPC family. By doing so, you will create a living legacy while providing a personal connection for the athletes who benefit from your endowment gift.

Each year, you will receive a report on the athlete who meets target criteria identified in your gift agreement. Athlete endowments may be restricted to athletes by position on the playing field, sport, discipline or geographical region.

Team USA Sport Endowments

As the steward of the Olympic and Paralympic movements in the United States, the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee is charged with supporting its athletes today, while generating resources for the team of tomorrow.

Unlike most National Olympic Committees, the USOPC does not receive federal funding for its Olympic programs. Instead, it relies on the generosity of the American public to help U.S. athletes remain competitive with the rest of the world. This support is more important today than ever, especially in the face of increased financial commitment of governments around the world that oversee the Olympic and Paralympic sport programs of our top competitors.

  • Team USA is significantly outspent by competitors, primarily due to the investment from their governments
  • Nearly 93 percent of the USOPC’s organizational budget is allocated for sport funding, programming and athletes
  • One hundred percent of gifts to the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Foundation goes toward athletes and the high-performance programs that support them
  • In 2013, the USOC allocated $51 million to its NGBs and Paralympic organizations
  • Implementing a results-based resource allocation process, the USOC dedicated more than $1 million each to a total of 17 NGBs, including two that received in excess of $3 million, in 2013

In order to keep pace with our peers around the world, Team USA coaches and National Governing Bodies require a fixed source of financial support from the USOPC for their high-performance programming. Through a Team USA Sport Endowment gift of $1,000,000 (full support) or $500,000 (partial support), you can significantly impact the performance of a U.S. national team with a stable source of funding now and well into the future of the sport.

Your generosity enables Team USA to compete, excel and change society for the better, for many years and many Games to come. Add to that the gratitude of a nation, and you’d be hard-pressed to find a better investment of time or money.
