Van started downhill skiing as soon as he could walk and began competitively cross-country skiing at the age of 10, he began biathlon at the age of 13. Currently Van competes for the Crosscut Elite Team in Bozeman, Montana, and attends Montana State University where he is studying chemical engineering with a focus in pre-med.
