Originally scheduled to take place last summer, the 2020 Olympic Games are slated to be held July 23 to Aug. 8, 2021 in Tokyo. Team USA will begin its first competitions prior to the Opening Ceremony, with two teams competing on July 21: the women’s softball team faces Italy at noon local time/10 p.m. CDT at the Fukushima Azuma Baseball Stadium, and the women’s soccer team will square off with Sweden at 5:30 p.m. local time/3:30 a.m. CDT at Tokyo Stadium. Men’s gymnastics, 3x3 basketball, beach volleyball, fencing, swimming, volleyball and water polo all begin competition on July 24. Track and field – which boasts Team USA’s largest contingent of athletes (128) – kicks off competition on July 30 and continues through the final day of the Games, when the men’s marathon will be contested.
