Stearns, who grew up in Melbourne, Florida, joined the Marine Corps after graduating from high school, and he served five years as an infantry machine gunner in the 2/6 Gulf company from 2007 to 2012. While on a combat tour in Marjah, Afghanistan, he stepped on an IED which resulted in the loss of his right leg below the knee, and multiple fractures and various injuries to his left leg. He hasn’t let his injury stop him. His goal is to inspire people to pursue their goals no matter the unfortunate events that happen in their lives.
