Personal: Shafik was born in Baghdad, Iraq and contracted Polio as a baby do to the vaccine. He moved to the United States in 2001 to finish school as an electronics engineer at Tucson Pima Community College. He developed a love for the sport of powerlifting in 1997 at age 24 in Baghdad....Son of Abulqader and Abdula Shafik...Married to Nour Qasem...Has one son, Abdul...Hobbies include playing the piano and working out...Worked for Hilton as an engineer for more than 10 years...Served in the U.S. Army for 10 years and was a linguist for three years in Iraq
