I’ve been an athlete all my life. I started playing baseball when I was 2, basketball at 3, cross country at 6, and football at 7. I was non-stop sports until I lost my vision. Even then I continued to play basketball all throughout high school. I learned to play drums by playing Rock Band. Also both my mother-in-law (Karen Helmacy) and my father-in-law (Jerry Windell) played goalball and medaled in the Paralympics. Karen was a gold medalist in javelin and goalball in 1984, and Jerry won silver in goalball in 1988.
