Personal: Before cycling, Macom was a professional BMX racer then transitioned to road and track cycling in 2004. In 2015, he lost his right leg from below the knee from complications while recovering from a broken ankle. Doctors had to amputate Jason's leg below the knee, but it didn't stop him from getting back on his bike to work towards the dream on which he set forth as a child, to participate at the Games. When he is not training, Macom coaches the Central Arkansas Roller Derby and is also is a barber.
