Personal:
In August of 2011, Lister attended a Paratriathlon camp for the Challenged Athletes Foundation, and got on a bike for the first time since he was 17 years old. He was diagnosed with a rare and acute brain abnormality known as an AVM at the age of 15. To correct the malformation, he underwent invasive brain surgery at the age of 16. The surgery was a success in treating the AVM, but as a complication he started experiencing some swelling in the brain several months’ post operation. The swelling led to some loss of function on his left side. In June of 1999 at the age of 17, he suffered a stroke. Lister continues to make strong strides for Team USA on and off the track. ...Is a spokesperson for National Stroke Association and its ComeBackStrong campaign…Trains at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs…Has a service dog named Potter
