Resident Sports

Lake Placid was the site of both the 1932 and 1980 Olympic Winter Games and athletes still use the renovated facilities from the 1980 Games to sharpen their skills.  Most recently, of the 28 U.S. Olympic medal winners at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games, 10 of the medalists trained at the Lake Placid Olympic & Paralympic Training Center. It’s not just winter sports either, as the Lake Placid Olympic & Paralympic Training Center offers training to all sports year round. Below is a list of sports that the Lake Placid OPTC center around:

  • Biathlon
  • Bobsled & Skeleton
  • Figure Skating
  • Hockey
  • Luge
  • Ski & Snowboard
  • Speedskating

Other sports that train at the Lake Placid OPTC include: archery, athletics, badminton, boxing, canoe/kayak, gymnastics (rhythmic), rowing, synchronized swimming, team handball, volleyball, water polo, weightlifting and wrestling.
