Snyder wins gold at Memorial of 19th & 20th Century Famous Wrestlers in Khasavjurt, Russia

KHASAVJURT, Russia - 2016 Olympic champion and two-time World champion Kyle Snyder (State College, Pa./Titan Mercury WC/Nittany Lion WC) won a gold medal at 97 kg at the Memorial of 19th and 20th Century Famous Wrestlers on Friday.

Snyder won four straight bouts by technical fall to secure the title. In the championship finals, he defeated 2021 European Junior silver medalist Ali Aliev of Russia, 18-8. According to Wrestdag.ru, Aliev jumped to an early lead in the match, but Snyder quickly took control and dominated the rest of the way.

Snyder opened with a pair of 11-0 technical falls, beating Russian Nationals bronze medalist Khokh Khugaev of Russia, then stopping European U23 champion Aslanbek Sotiev of Russia. In the semifinals, Snyder secured a 13-3 victory over 2019 U23 World silver medalist Shamil Musaev of Russia.

Snyder is coming off a year in which he won an Olympic silver medal in Tokyo, Japan, then a World silver medal in Oslo, Norway. He has won a medal at every Olympic Games and World Championships since he burst onto the scene with a gold medal at the 2015 World Championships.
