Before Dan Henderson became a mixed martial arts star, he was one of the top Greco-Roman wrestlers in the country. Henderson competed in both the 1992 and 1996 Olympic Games as well as the 1994 and 1997 World Championships. Additionally, he was a three-time Senior Nationals champion, claiming titles in 1993, 1994 and 1997.
In the finals of the 1997 U.S. Open, Henderson wrestled Tod Giles, the 1988 World Military champion in freestyle. Giles was also an All-American at Boston University and a 1997 Pan Am bronze medalist.
Giles was a coach for Army West Point from 1998-2002, including two years in the head coaching position. He passed away in 2007.
