A year after becoming the youngest American to ever win a World title, Kyle Snyder made history again, becoming the youngest American to win Olympic gold in wrestling at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. He was only 20 years old. Previously, the record was held by Henry Cejudo, who won took gold at the 2008 Beijing Olympics when he was 21.
In the finals, Snyder battled two-time Olympic bronze medalist Khetag Goziumov of Azerbaijan. Goziumov was a 2010 World champion, a three-time World silver medalist (2009, 2013, 2014) and a 2015 World bronze medalist.
Snyder has continued adding to his legacy since this match, earning World gold in 2017, silver in 2018 and bronze in 2019.
