McBryde finishes fifth at U23 World Championships in Budapest

BUDAPEST, Hungary – Muhamed McBryde ended his international debut with a fifth-place finish at the 2019 U23 World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

Wrestling at 79 kg, McBryde went 2-2 overall and advanced to the bronze-medal bout.

In his medal match, McBryde took on 2019 U23 European silver medalist Ramazan Sari of Turkey.

McBryde was on the board first, drawing a passivity point from Sari to take a 1-0 lead into the break. In the second period, Sari broke away with a takedown and two turns. The deficit was too much for McBryde to overcome and he lost bout 8-3.

As of now, the USA is in 11th place in the team race with 22 points. The top-three teams after day two are Azerbaijan with 75 points, Georgia with 72 points and Russian with 65 points.
