FARGO, N.D. – The numbers are in. The 2019 U.S. Marine Corps Junior and 16U Nationals, held in the Fargodome on the campus of North Dakota State University from July 12-19, set an all-time record for combined entries.

There were 5,378 entries in the six tournaments held this year, an impressive increase of 387 over the combined total in 2018.

Every single tournament saw an increase, with the largest jump in the 16U Women’s Freestyle Nationals. There were 360 athletes entered this year, an increase of 102 wrestlers from last year.

Included in this year’s numbers were a pair of U23 Special Wrestle-offs, which added four athletes to the total.

The tournament featured 10,571 matches, all which were broadcast live to the world by FloWrestling. The army of volunteers included 183 referees and 42 pairing officials, and hundreds of other volunteers working the scoreclocks and video cameras, plus other event related issues.

On behalf of USA Wrestling and the sport of wrestling, we wish to thank all of the people who made this year’s event a smashing success. There is a special appreciation of the athletes and their families, who invested the time, resources and energy to prepare for the competition and to put it all out on the line against the best in the nation.

We are looking forward to next year’s event, which is scheduled for July 17-24, 2020, which will be the historic 50th Junior Nationals competition. The first Junior Nationals was held in Iowa City, Iowa in 1971.
