Athletes encouraged to petition for open spots on 2019 U.S. Grappling World Team by July 15

USA Wrestling is seeking applicants to fill open positions on the 2019 U.S. Grappling World Team, which will compete at the 2019 Grappling World Championships this fall.

Based upon the results from the recent U.S. Grappling World Team Trials, held at the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., the following weight classes were not filled for the 2019 U.S. Grappling World Team:

• Women’s No-Gi 53 kg
• Women’s No-Gi 64 kg
• Women’s No-Gi 71 kg
• Women’s No-Gi Over 71kg
• Men’s Gi 77 kg
• Women’s Gi 53 kg
• Women’s Gi 58 kg
• Women’s Gi 64 kg
• Women’s Gi 71 kg
• Women’s Gi 77 kg

A committee of three, appointed by the Associated Styles Committee, will review all applicants, using the following achievements as guidelines for selection:
1. World medalist at 2018 Grappling Worlds in specific style and weight class
2. Placement at 2018 or 2019 Grappling World Team Trials in specific style and weight class
3. Medalist at past UWW Grappling World Championships
4. Medalist at past USA Wrestling Grappling World Team Trials
5. Participation in past USA Wrestling Grappling World Team Trials
6. Achievements in other Grappling organization events

Applicants are asked to email their name, the weight class and style they are seeking, plus a resume of achievements to Gary Abbott of USA Wrestling at gabbott@usawrestling.org by July 15, 2019

Please note: Additional weight classes could become available if the qualifiers and alternates from the 2019 U.S. Grappling World Team Trials decline their spot on the team. USA Wrestling will announce any additional open weight classes immediately if they become available.
