No. 5 Michigan defeats No. 15 Arizona State, 23-12, in Tempe

TEMPE, Ariz. - The No. 15 Arizona State wrestling team started off strong but fell to the No. 5 Michigan Wolverines, 23-12, Saturday night at Wells Fargo Arena.

The Sun Devils stormed ahead to a 12-0 lead early with decisions by No. 15 Christian Pagdilao (157), No. 5 Josh Shields (165), No. 2 Zahid Valencia (174) and Jacen Petersen (184).

The Wolverines got on the board as No. 18 Jackson Striggow took the 10-6 decision over Austyn Harris at 197 lbs., bringing the score to 12-3 in favor of the Sun Devils headed into the intermission.

Michigan's Mason Parris pinned Brady Daniel in 5:56 at heavyweight to bring things close at 12-9 and No. 11 Drew Mattin earned a 9-7 decision over Brandon Courtney at 125 lbs. to tie things up at 12.

The Wolverines pulled ahead, 17-12, at 133 lbs. as No. 2 Stevan Micic recorded a 17-2 tech fall over No. 20 Josiah Kline in 4:26. They would not relinquish the lead for the remainder of the dual.
