TALLINN, Estonia – Cameron Guerin (Yakima, Wash./Titan Mercury WC/EAP) was unable qualify for a bronze medal match at 57 kg/125.5 lbs. after being defeated in her Friday morning repechage match at the Junior World Championships.

Guerin was pinned by 2019 Asian Junior bronze medalist Youmei Wu of China in the repechage match in 1:53. Wu scored first on a stepout. The wrestlers got into a scramble, with Guerin scoring points and being reversed. Wu finished the exchange by putting Guerin to her back and securing the fall.

On Thursday, Guerin opened with a 9-3 win over Ana Luiza Perreira Franca of Brazil, then was pinned by Alina Akobiia of Ukraine in 1:57 in the quarterfinals.

Guerin was pulled back in repechage after Akobiia won her semifinal match by technical fall over Magdalena Glodek of Poland.

It was the first repechage match that Team USA has had in the entire Junior Worlds so far, coming on the fifth day of competition. The U.S. had no repechage bouts in men’s freestyle, and Guerin secured the only repechage match in women’s freestyle.

Guerin was fifth in the 2017 Junior World Championships. She spent the last year with the Elite Accelerator Program at the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Center.

The U.S. will have two women competing for medals at the 6:00 p.m. session Friday night. Macey Kilty (Stratford, Wis./Sunkist Kids) goes for gold at 65 kg/143 lbs., while Alyvia Fiske (Napa, Calif./Titan Mercury WC) seeks bronze at 72 kg/158 lbs.

Kilty will battle three-time age-group World medalist Miwa Morikawa of Japan in the gold-medal finals. Morikawa has won World medals in the Cadet, Junior and U23 age groups.

Fiske’s opponent for the bronze medal bout was determined in Friday morning repechage. She will face Anastasiya Alpyeyeva of Ukraine, who won her repechage match by fall.

All of the action is being broadcast by Trackwrestling. Tallinn is seven hours ahead of the U.S. Eastern time zone.
