KLAIPEDA, Lithuania - PV2 Anastasia Lobsinger of the U.S. Army captured a bronze medal at 75 kg/165 lbs. in women’s freestyle on Saturday, the final day of the CISM World Military Championships.

Lobsinger went 2-1 in her competition, which featured six athletes competing in two pools.

She opened with a loss by pin to 2008 Olympic bronze medalist and returning CISM World champion Agnieszka Wieszczek-Kordus of Poland in Pool A. Her second bout was a victory over Cynthia Vanessa Vescan of France, giving her second place in the pool and advancing her to the bronze-medal bout. She earned the bronze medal with a victory over Nomin-Erdene Purvee of Mongolia.

This is the second World medal in Lobsinger’s career, to go along with a 2012 Cadet World bronze medal.

The United States won three medals in the four-day tournament, which featured numerous World and Olympic medalists in competition. The other two medals came in men’s freestyle, with a silver medal by SGT Ryan Mango of the U.S. Army at 61 kg/134 lbs. and a bronze medal by 2LT Matthew Brown of the U.S. Army at 74 kg/163 lbs.

The USA entered four Greco-Roman athletes in Saturday’s action. Winning their first matches then falling short of the medal rounds were SGT Courtney Myers of the U.S. Army, who was eighth at 80 kg/176 lbs. and 1LT Daniel Miller of the U.S. Marine Corps, who placed seventh at 98 kg/215 lbs.

Myers opened with a convincing 10-1 technical fall over Nikolaos Varkas of Greece. In the second round, he was beaten by 2014 Junior World champion Ali Sharifi of Iran, 6-3. Sharifi did not reach the finals, making Myers ineligible for repechage.

Miller also had a strong opening victory, defeating Spyridon Kountaratzis of Greece, 7-1. In the next bout, he was defeated by 2016 University World bronze medalist Siarhei Starodub of Belarus, 6-1. Starodub, also a 2015 World Military Games bronze medalist, was beaten in the semifinals, knocking Miller out of the tournament.

Two other U.S. wrestlers finished with 0-1 records, SGT John Stefanowicz of the U.S. Marine Corps, who was ninth at 85 kg/187 lbs. and LCPL Eric Fader (U.S. Marine Corps), who was 10th at 130 kg/286 lbs.
