Kyle Snyder of the United States won his third straight World or Olympic gold medal with a stunning victory over Olympic champion and two-time World champion Abdulrashid Sadulaev of Russia in the 97 kg finals at the 2017 World Championships in Paris, France. Sadulaev moved up a weight class this year, hoping to face Snyder. Both powered through their half-bracket in Paris to set up what United World Wrestling dubbed the Match of the Century. Snyder scored a takedown in the closing seconds for the win. His victory gave the United States the World Team Title, just one point ahead of Russia. It was the first USA World Team Title in freestyle since 1995, and only the third ever. Website photo by Larry Slater.
