UPDATE: Hope wins bronze medal, Roberts takes fourth at Vantaa Cup in Finland

VANTAA, Finland - Ryan Hope (Howell, Mich./NYAC/Cliff Keen WC) claimed a bronze medal, the top U.S. Greco-Roman performance at the Vantaa Cup on Saturday.

Hope finished with a 2-1 record, and scored an impressive 12-4 technical fall over Henri Kortesoja of Finland in his bronze-medal match.

He opened with a loss to eventual silver medalist Patrik Szabo of Hungary, who has now won medals in four international events this year. Hope scored a walkover in his repechage round over Vladislav Kulpa of Russia.

Placing fourth, with a 2-2 record at 59 kg/130 lbs., was two-time Junior World Team member Dalton Roberts (Fowlerville, Mich./NMU-OTS).

Both of his victories were by technical fall. Roberts opened with an 11-0 victory over Nordic Junior champion Helary Magisalu of Estonia. He was edged by Lauri Mahonen of Finland, 5-3. In his repechage bout, Roberts was powerful in a 9-0 technical fall over Viktor Petryk of Ukraine. In his bronze-medal match, he fell to Rodion Samatov of Russia, 8-0.

The third USA athlete to compete on Saturday was 2015 Junior World Team member Travis Rice (Washington, Ill. (NMU-OTS), who had a 0-2 record at 66 kg/145.5 lbs.

All three USA wrestlers will stay in Finland, where they will compete at the Arvo Haavisto Cup in Ilmajoki, Finland on November 26.
