| Brent Metcalf (USA) will wrestle at 65 kg in men's freestyle
tomorrow at the Pan American Games.
The third day of competition in Toronto will feature three women’s freestyle weight classes in addition to two men’s freestyle weight classes. Wrestling will begin at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow with the finals set for 8 p.m. (EDT).
U.S. World Team member Erin Clodgo will open competition against defending Pan American Games champion Katerina Vidiaux of Cuba in the quarterfinals at 63 kg/138.75 lbs. Vidiaux won the Pan American Championships this year and was an Olympian in 2012.
Two-time World champion Adeline Gray will face familiar foe Aline Da Silva Ferreira of Brazil in the quarterfinals at 75 kg/165 lbs. in a rematch of the 2014 World Championships gold medal match won by Gray. Da Silva Ferreira won a silver medal at the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico.
Escobedo, a fifth place finisher in the 2013 World Championships, is set to face Emir Hernandez Gomez Yerson of Colombia in the quarterfinals at 57 kg/125.5 lbs.
Metcalf, a four-time U.S. World Team member, will take on Marbin Miranda Casasola of Guatemala in the quarterfinals at 65 kg/143 lbs.
Both Hernandez Gomez Yerson and Miranda Casasola competed in the Pan American Championships this year, but neither earned a medal.
The 69 kg/152 lbs. women’s freestyle weight class will also compete on Friday. The U.S. did not qualify to compete at 69 kg in Toronto.
