The wrestling federation of Russia has provided its lineup for the 2015 Freestyle Wrestling World Cup, which will be held at the Forum, presented by Chase, April 11-12 in Inglewood, Calif.

The World Cup is the annual international dual meet championships, and will feature the top eight men’s freestyle wrestling teams in the world.

Upon first glance, this Russian team does not feature a past World or Olympic medalist. However, when reviewing the achievements of those on the roster, Russia will once again be a major force at this year’s World Cup.

Nine of the Russian athletes coming to Los Angeles have won a medal at the Ivan Yarygin Grand Prix, held annually in Krasonyarsk, Russia and considered the toughest open freestyle wrestling tournament in the world. Six of these athletes were medalists at the most recent Ivan Yarygin Grand Prix, held in January 1995.

Israel Kasumov, who wrestles at 70 kg/154 lbs., won the 2014 Ivan Yarygin Grand Prix and placed third in the 2015 Yarygin Grand Prix.

Akhmed Chakaev, on the team at 65 kg/143.3 lbs., was second in the 2009 Ivan Yarygin Grand Prix and third in the 2014 Ivan Yarygin. He was the 2011 and 2013 Ramzan Kadyrov Cup champion in Russia and the 2013 International Ukrainian Tournament champion.

2010 World University champion Yuri Belonovski, who competes at 97 kg/213 lbs., won bronze medals at the Ivan Yarygin Grand Prix in both 2013 and 2015. Another two-time Ivan Yarygin Grand Prix bronze medalist was Arslanbek Aliev, who won medals in 2013 and 2015 at 125 kg/275 lbs.

Isa Daudov, an entry at 74 kg/163 lbs., won bronze medals in both the 2014 and 2015 Ivan Yarygin Grand Prix.

Akhmed Magomedov, a 2012 World University bronze medalist, has won an Ivan Yarygin Grand Prix bronze medal in 2015.

Murshid Mutalimov, competing at 61 kg/134 lbs., was an Ivan Yargin Grand Prix bronze medalist in 2014. He was also fifth in the 2011 Junior World Championships. Other Russian athletes coming to Los Angeles with past Ivan Yarygin Grand Prix bronze medals are Egor Ponomarev at 61 kg/134 lbs. and Zaurbek Sidakov at 65 kg/143 lbs.,

Russia placed first at the 2014 World Championships, which were held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan

The eight nations which will compete for the World Cup are (alphabetically): Azerbaijan, Belarus, Cuba, Iran, Mongolia, Russia, Turkey and the United States. Nations were invited based upon final team standings at the 2014 World Championships.
